WHAT IS A DIRECT-VENT FIREPLACE?
Direct-vent is a glass-faced sealed fireplace with a venting system. Fresh air is pulled from
outside of your home into the fireplace and the exhaust is expelled through a separate pipe back
outside. A direct-vent unit is 70-85% efficient. Direct-vent units can also be installed in masonry
fireplaces or framed inside your home.
WHAT IS A VENT-FREE FIREPLACE?
Vent-free, as indicated by the name, requires no vent pipe. Vent-free appliances are often used
in situations when a fireplace is wanted in an area of the home where venting is undesirable or
impossible. A vent-free burner is 99% efficient and can be installed in a masonry fireplace or
firebox framed inside your home.
